Corn Pone

1 quart boiling water
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar and a little more
1 cup flour
1 quart stone ground cornmeal
Stir all these ingredients together. Add 1 quart cold water and 1 quart cornmeal. Stir occasionally until bedtime. In morning, add 1/2 cup sour milk* and 2 teaspoons of baking soda. I use a bundt pan to bake this in.

Bake 3 1/2 to 4 hours in a covered pan. You actually steam this bread in a large pot. Bake afterwards to crisp up the exterior if desired. 

*sour milk can either be milk that has a little bit of vinegar added to it or buttermilk.
